how to get a good pic

1. DON'T BE A D!CK

Common sense really. Don't pull wheelies, try get your knee down, do rolling burnouts. It doesn't matter how good a rider you think you are, it doesn't matter how cool it looks, it doesn't matter what other photographers do.
I don't know what your riding ability is, all I see is what I see through my viewfinder, and I have had the misfortune of seeing a near fatal accident. I do not ever want to see anything like that ever again.
So I might look like I'm taking pics of you getting your knee down, but you will never see them, or have the oppurtunity to buy them.
I do not want to do anything to encourage dangerous riding on the roads or at my shoots. I go to most of my locations at least once a month, and I don't need to get a reputation for anti social or dangerous riding.

Having said that - Knee down is OK at IOM TT though, because it's TT and that's what people do there.

2. SLOW DOWN

It might not seem like it, but going slower makes for a better pic. It gives the camera chance to lock the focus on you, ensuring you'll have more sharp and usable pics. In any case, I use a slower shutter speed than most other roadside photographers, from what I can tell (that's not a dig at anyone else, they can shoot however they want),so you don't actually have to be going 180mph to get a pic with a decent amount of motion blur and movement in it. If I can make a 50cc ped look fast, I can make your S1000RR look fast.

3. SPREAD OUT

If you are lucky enough to be riding with all your mates, SPREAD OUT. This also applies if you're riding solo, or are in traffic. Leave a gap in front, to give the camera chance to get you in focus.
It also means there will be more pics of you, and if you're in a group, less other people in the background cluttering up your shots.

4. MAKE MORE PASSES

If you have ridden 300 miles to come get a pic, first of all, thanks, secondly, don't just make one pass.
I don't always get a decent shot first time, this can be for a lot of reasons, obviously all to do with my camera, and not my ability😉.
Seriously, the more passes, the better the pIcs will be, and the more you will have to choose from. When I can see someone is making multiple passes,as soon as I know we have some decent ones in the bag, I will start trying different shots - so different angles, slower shutterspeeds etc, giving you even more shots to choose from.
